Lacey
and I started dating in May, 2000. We did not have a personal relationship with
God and no real understanding of eternity. We did not believe in heaven or
hell. I was afraid of dying and had a lot of anxiety. We also believed that
when we die, it would be just like before we were born; there would be no
feeling at all. Our purpose for living was to live the best life we could by
doing things we loved and that were glorifying to ourselves.
In 2006, after struggling with depression and
reaching some low points, God opened my eyes and revealed His glory to me. I
surrendered my life and started living for Christ. Lacey received Jesus as her
Lord and Savior shortly after and our lifestyle and purpose for living was
radically changed. We were no longer living for our comfort or personal gain,
but through our joy in glorifying God.
For
the next few years, we enjoyed serving God through our local church. Although
our hearts were focused on God, our intentions as new Christians were still
focused on our comfortable future and retirement. Our prayers were focused on
our situations and needs. We knew as Christians, there were certain things we
should not do any more, but did not realize that there were things God wanted
us to do.
In 2011, God blessed us with our daughter,
Sophie. Even though our faith was strong and we knew that God had forgiven us,
we could not understand why He would give us this amazing gift. We were
inspired, because of His grace to us, to serve God and do whatever He asked of
us. Six months after Sophie was born, God started revealing to us His desire
for the Gospel to reach all nations. At that time we were planning to move to
Hawaii and enjoy retirement.
However,
as our passion grew stronger for the lost, our plans for our dream location
began to change and we started pursuing opportunities in other countries to
serve God. After visiting many countries, God continued to confirm our calling
for the nations. We realized that our dream location was not a specific place,
but wherever we could reach others and glorify God. Our retirement will be our
eternity with God!
For by grace you have been saved through
faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of
works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
