Learning

In the very near future, Clint, Sophie, and I will be learning a ton! We will all be learning a new language, a new culture, and a whole new way of living. Each of us will be picking up new things along the way: Clint has specifically mentioned an interest in growing (and eating) our own food, I will be interested in learning to cook new and different foods and recipes.
Something we are all excited about is the beginning of Sophie’s homeschooling! She has already acquired a great LOVE for reading; this girl could read for hours! Since we have also been introducing her to other educational things too, we went ahead and got her a kindergarten curriculum (Sonlight to be specific). We have read through all the material to be sure we are fully prepared to hit the ground running once we get ready to start. I am pleased that a lot of the learning is centered around read-a-louds so she can learn through listening to stories, which we know she enjoys. A great author once wrote:

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”

Another neat thing about this particular curriculum that stood out to me was that every subject points back to God and His wonderful creation. For example, Geography begins with stories about missionaries going to different countries, followed by mapping and exploring the people, culture, and history of that part of the world (how relevant is that!) And that is just one example of the precious way it points her heart to Christ through academic learning.

The homeschooling will grow her in many important ways, but I am just as excited about the new sights she will see and new things she will get to experience once we move to Ecuador. Being immersed in this new culture is also exciting for me! We will all get to meet so many wonderful people, eat new foods, speak a new language, and learn a new way of life. And we will do this all while getting closer to God every step of the way!
